Narrative:
At approximately XB50-XC00 local time we requested to turn to the southwest to go around WX and then proceed direct to act (our alternate). As we began the right turn I advanced the power levers to increase to cruise speed. I glanced out the windshield for about 1 second. When I looked back the right engine overtemp light was on and itt was at 967 degrees C. Maximum transient itt is 965 degrees C for 12 seconds. I retarded the power immediately. I estimate that the itt was 2 degrees C over maximum for 2-3 seconds. When we arrived in act I called dispatch and maintenance (moc). Maintenance called their 'ge man' and I explained to him what had happened. He said that we were within the ge limits and that there was no need to write up an engine overtemp in the maintenance log. Maintenance said that there was nothing wrong with the engine and that it was ok to keep the act in service. I do not know whether the 'ge man' actually works for general electric or our own maintenance department. Per maintenance's orders we continued using the aircraft on revenue passenger flts.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR SF340 FLC OVERTEMPS THE R ENG AS THEY WERE DEPARTING AN AREA OF TSTMS. THE CAPT WAS DISTRACTED BY THE BUILDUPS WHILE ADVANCING THE PWR LEVERS AND DID NOT NOTE THE INCREASING TEMPS UNTIL THE MAX HAD BEEN EXCEEDED.
Narrative: AT APPROX XB50-XC00 LCL TIME WE REQUESTED TO TURN TO THE SW TO GAR WX AND THEN PROCEED DIRECT TO ACT (OUR ALTERNATE). AS WE BEGAN THE R TURN I ADVANCED THE PWR LEVERS TO INCREASE TO CRUISE SPD. I GLANCED OUT THE WINDSHIELD FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND. WHEN I LOOKED BACK THE R ENG OVERTEMP LIGHT WAS ON AND ITT WAS AT 967 DEGS C. MAX TRANSIENT ITT IS 965 DEGS C FOR 12 SECONDS. I RETARDED THE PWR IMMEDIATELY. I ESTIMATE THAT THE ITT WAS 2 DEGS C OVER MAX FOR 2-3 SECONDS. WHEN WE ARRIVED IN ACT I CALLED DISPATCH AND MAINT (MOC). MAINT CALLED THEIR 'GE MAN' AND I EXPLAINED TO HIM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. HE SAID THAT WE WERE WITHIN THE GE LIMITS AND THAT THERE WAS NO NEED TO WRITE UP AN ENG OVERTEMP IN THE MAINT LOG. MAINT SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ENG AND THAT IT WAS OK TO KEEP THE ACT IN SVC. I DO NOT KNOW WHETHER THE 'GE MAN' ACTUALLY WORKS FOR GENERAL ELECTRIC OR OUR OWN MAINT DEPT. PER MAINT'S ORDERS WE CONTINUED USING THE ACFT ON REVENUE PAX FLTS.
