Narrative:

In level flight at 4000 ft MSL, on vectors for visual approach to swf in VMC at night, GPWS terrain warning sounded. Applied full power and started an immediate climb until warning silenced (approximately 1500 ft). After evaluating the situation, it appeared the warning was a false indication. Remainder of approach and landing were uneventful.

Title: AN ACR MLG CREW CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A GPWS WARNING. THEY CONSIDERED THIS TO BE A FALSE WARNING, BUT IN REALITY IT COULD HAVE BEEN REAL AS THEY WERE OPERATING IN A DESIGNATED MOUNTAINOUS AREA, SWF.

Narrative: IN LEVEL FLT AT 4000 FT MSL, ON VECTORS FOR VISUAL APCH TO SWF IN VMC AT NIGHT, GPWS TERRAIN WARNING SOUNDED. APPLIED FULL PWR AND STARTED AN IMMEDIATE CLB UNTIL WARNING SILENCED (APPROX 1500 FT). AFTER EVALUATING THE SIT, IT APPEARED THE WARNING WAS A FALSE INDICATION. REMAINDER OF APCH AND LNDG WERE UNEVENTFUL.
