Narrative:

We had flown ship from sfo to cle. Upon arrival at cle we left the aircraft for about 45 mins to get something to eat. When we returned I noticed a truck had struck the tail of our aircraft piercing the skin. We reported it to cle maintenance and the aircraft was taken OTS. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter was contacted and revealed the following facts. The airplane was a B737-300 and was parked on a well lighted gate. However, the WX was bad, heavy rain and high winds. The reporter was not on board the airplane when it was struck. Reporter found the damage on the walkaround preflight check. Airplane was removed from service for repair. The FAA has not contacted the reporter.
