Narrative:
After handoff from center, contacted tvc tower for visual approach. Instructed to enter left base at 3 mi, notified control tower that ATC had vectored on localizer for sequencing. Informed practice approach in area, which I idented as trailing several mi. No other contact with tower until short final, when told I had not been cleared to land. Discussed afterward with tower, told no other planes in area, but technically was never cleared to land. Possible factor was significant turbulence and LLWS which requires a significant consideration, but pilot still should have questioned tower about status prior to short final, most likely at 3 mi.

Title: SMA RETURNING FROM IFR PLEASURE LANDED RWY 28 TVC WITHOUT CLRNC. ENCOUNTERED TURB AND LLWS IN AREA CONTRIBUTING.
Narrative: AFTER HDOF FROM CTR, CONTACTED TVC TWR FOR VISUAL APCH. INSTRUCTED TO ENTER L BASE AT 3 MI, NOTIFIED CTL TWR THAT ATC HAD VECTORED ON LOC FOR SEQUENCING. INFORMED PRACTICE APCH IN AREA, WHICH I IDENTED AS TRAILING SEVERAL MI. NO OTHER CONTACT WITH TWR UNTIL SHORT FINAL, WHEN TOLD I HAD NOT BEEN CLRED TO LAND. DISCUSSED AFTERWARD WITH TWR, TOLD NO OTHER PLANES IN AREA, BUT TECHNICALLY WAS NEVER CLRED TO LAND. POSSIBLE FACTOR WAS SIGNIFICANT TURB AND LLWS WHICH REQUIRES A SIGNIFICANT CONSIDERATION, BUT PLT STILL SHOULD HAVE QUESTIONED TWR ABOUT STATUS PRIOR TO SHORT FINAL, MOST LIKELY AT 3 MI.
