Narrative:

I was copilot on this flight and as we descended through 10500 ft on the civet arrival we received a TA on our TCASII. It was almost immediately followed by an RA. We broke our descent and began a climb as per TCASII command. As the VFR aircraft passed 500 ft under us socal approach called it out as VFR traffic. TCASII may very well have prevented a midair collision.
