Narrative:

Did not reset altimeters out of FL180 after departing XXX. We were on a lifeguard flight and we were slightly distracted during climb working on coordination with ATC. We ended up leveling off about 300 ft too low at cruise. ZZZ center brought it to our attention. We reset altimeters which were still at 30.44 and used vertical speed to regain our proper altitude. We were receiving priority handling which created extra communication. In reality we just had a box of human eyes on board as part of a donor system. And I don't really feel that it really warranted all the extra handling that ATC sometimes equates with a lifeguard radio identify.
