Narrative:
I was with a student on a training flight. He was getting ready to go on a phase check to see if he is ready for solo cross country flight. So I was not actively instructing -- just seeing how he did. The flight was from bridgeport, ct, to caldwell, nj. The student came very close to violating west chester's class D airspace as well as busting through the floor of new york's class B. He remained clear of both but only marginally. Even though I was evaluating his performance, I should have not let him get so close to class D or class B airspace without a clearance.
