Narrative:
I would like to report what I believe is a safety hazard. On the approach into christian county airport (hvc), hopkinsville, ky, using runway 8, a television or radio tower has been put up. If you stay on the PAPI lights you come within 50 yards, I believe, of this tower. At one point on the approach your right wing will be even with the tower. On talking with airport board members the airport was not consulted or notified. I feel this tower is within the airport safety or runway safety zone. Also the tower in question does not appear on any approach charts or maps. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: not only has this reporter's passenger voiced discomfort over the tower's physical location near the airport, but he believes that this tower poses a threat to the safety of the ft campbell military pilots during their night vision goggle flight training operations. The tower is estimated to be approximately 200-300 ft AGL.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A NEW TELEVISION OR RADIO TWR HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED NEAR THE FINAL APCH PATH OF RWY 8 AT HVC, WITHOUT THE ARPT ADVISORY BOARD'S PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OR APPROVAL. A RPTR ESTIMATES THAT THE TWR IS 200-300 FT AGL AND STATES THAT IT COMES WITHIN 150 FT OF THE ACFT'S R WINGTIP WHILE THE ACFT IS ON FINAL APCH AND FOLLOWING THE PAPI TO RWY 8.
Narrative: I WOULD LIKE TO RPT WHAT I BELIEVE IS A SAFETY HAZARD. ON THE APCH INTO CHRISTIAN COUNTY ARPT (HVC), HOPKINSVILLE, KY, USING RWY 8, A TELEVISION OR RADIO TWR HAS BEEN PUT UP. IF YOU STAY ON THE PAPI LIGHTS YOU COME WITHIN 50 YARDS, I BELIEVE, OF THIS TWR. AT ONE POINT ON THE APCH YOUR R WING WILL BE EVEN WITH THE TWR. ON TALKING WITH ARPT BOARD MEMBERS THE ARPT WAS NOT CONSULTED OR NOTIFIED. I FEEL THIS TWR IS WITHIN THE ARPT SAFETY OR RWY SAFETY ZONE. ALSO THE TWR IN QUESTION DOES NOT APPEAR ON ANY APCH CHARTS OR MAPS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: NOT ONLY HAS THIS RPTR'S PAX VOICED DISCOMFORT OVER THE TWR'S PHYSICAL LOCATION NEAR THE ARPT, BUT HE BELIEVES THAT THIS TWR POSES A THREAT TO THE SAFETY OF THE FT CAMPBELL MIL PLTS DURING THEIR NIGHT VISION GOGGLE FLT TRAINING OPS. THE TWR IS ESTIMATED TO BE APPROX 200-300 FT AGL.
