Narrative:

En route from dtw to lax, filed and cleared via reedr-3 STAR into lax. Subsequently cleared direct to civet inxtn on that STAR, we were then told to adhere to altitudes published. Passing civet, descending to 12000 ft MSL and cleared for approach to runway 25L at lax, ATC asked what STAR we were on. I had repeated back all clrncs and must have acknowledged a clearance to civet 1 STAR as they must have expected and thus we were too low. Our approach clearance was then canceled, we were cleared to level at 12000 ft and soon afterward cleared for the ILS runway 25L approach. I expect I just had it in my mind 'reedr-3' for the past several hours and unfortunately stuck with 'my' STAR. It is probably a normal procedure going into lax, switching stars, perhaps my basic unfamiliarity with this particular area also contributed to my confusion.

Title: A CPR GA1159 CREW MISREAD THE CIVET 1 ARR TO LAX AND GOT LOW AT CIVET.

Narrative: ENRTE FROM DTW TO LAX, FILED AND CLRED VIA REEDR-3 STAR INTO LAX. SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED DIRECT TO CIVET INXTN ON THAT STAR, WE WERE THEN TOLD TO ADHERE TO ALTS PUBLISHED. PASSING CIVET, DSNDING TO 12000 FT MSL AND CLRED FOR APCH TO RWY 25L AT LAX, ATC ASKED WHAT STAR WE WERE ON. I HAD REPEATED BACK ALL CLRNCS AND MUST HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED A CLRNC TO CIVET 1 STAR AS THEY MUST HAVE EXPECTED AND THUS WE WERE TOO LOW. OUR APCH CLRNC WAS THEN CANCELED, WE WERE CLRED TO LEVEL AT 12000 FT AND SOON AFTERWARD CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 25L APCH. I EXPECT I JUST HAD IT IN MY MIND 'REEDR-3' FOR THE PAST SEVERAL HRS AND UNFORTUNATELY STUCK WITH 'MY' STAR. IT IS PROBABLY A NORMAL PROC GOING INTO LAX, SWITCHING STARS, PERHAPS MY BASIC UNFAMILIARITY WITH THIS PARTICULAR AREA ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO MY CONFUSION.
