Narrative:
Descending from 8000 ft to 6000 ft on radar vector heading 170 degrees, new female controller (134.2 frequency socal/burbank) calls me and says 'did you get my call left 160 degrees descend to 5000 ft.' I say negative. She says in high pitched, agitated voice, 'I don't need this today -- pay attention!' (I don't think I missed her call.) she then says (during descent from 5000 ft to 3000 ft), 'I need faster rate of descent.' I was doing 500 FPM in full IMC. A min later she says in very agitated voice, 'I really need a faster descent rate' to which I reply that I'm doing best I can in IMC and light turbulence and I am unable to expedite faster than 500 FPM. She then issues vectors to join bur localizer. Her intercept heading puts me off localizer with 15 degrees intercept. Controller says I'm off course and gives me 2 360 degree turns before I am able to intercept localizer and ILS. This controller was overworked and behind, had singled me out for verbal harassment and unfair accusations. 2 calls to expedite descent rate in full IMC while flying light unpressurized aircraft is unsafe. The next day I filed report with socal TRACON regarding this incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: IFR SMA PLT MISSES CTLR XMISSION TO TURN. CTLR BECOMES IRRITATED DURING APCH AND ASKED FOR A HIGHER DSCNT RATE. THE RPTR PLT CLAIMS THAT 500 FPM IS THE BEST HE CAN DO.
Narrative: DSNDING FROM 8000 FT TO 6000 FT ON RADAR VECTOR HDG 170 DEGS, NEW FEMALE CTLR (134.2 FREQ SOCAL/BURBANK) CALLS ME AND SAYS 'DID YOU GET MY CALL L 160 DEGS DSND TO 5000 FT.' I SAY NEGATIVE. SHE SAYS IN HIGH PITCHED, AGITATED VOICE, 'I DON'T NEED THIS TODAY -- PAY ATTN!' (I DON'T THINK I MISSED HER CALL.) SHE THEN SAYS (DURING DSCNT FROM 5000 FT TO 3000 FT), 'I NEED FASTER RATE OF DSCNT.' I WAS DOING 500 FPM IN FULL IMC. A MIN LATER SHE SAYS IN VERY AGITATED VOICE, 'I REALLY NEED A FASTER DSCNT RATE' TO WHICH I REPLY THAT I'M DOING BEST I CAN IN IMC AND LIGHT TURB AND I AM UNABLE TO EXPEDITE FASTER THAN 500 FPM. SHE THEN ISSUES VECTORS TO JOIN BUR LOC. HER INTERCEPT HDG PUTS ME OFF LOC WITH 15 DEGS INTERCEPT. CTLR SAYS I'M OFF COURSE AND GIVES ME 2 360 DEG TURNS BEFORE I AM ABLE TO INTERCEPT LOC AND ILS. THIS CTLR WAS OVERWORKED AND BEHIND, HAD SINGLED ME OUT FOR VERBAL HARASSMENT AND UNFAIR ACCUSATIONS. 2 CALLS TO EXPEDITE DSCNT RATE IN FULL IMC WHILE FLYING LIGHT UNPRESSURIZED ACFT IS UNSAFE. THE NEXT DAY I FILED RPT WITH SOCAL TRACON REGARDING THIS INCIDENT.
