Narrative:
On nov/xx/96, time XX15 at lax, lax tower cleared flight to cross runway 6R and to hold short of runway 6L. As I began to cross runway 6R hold lines, I looked to the west where I saw an air carrier B747 breaking out of overcast and about to land on runway 6R. Estimated distance 1/2 mi estimated ceiling 200 ft. I immediately stopped the airplane short of runway 6R and the copilot advised tower that we would be holding short of runway 6R due to the fact that the B747 was about to land. The tower responded with a 'negative.' after the B747 landed we were cleared across runway 6R into position on runway 6L. I believe if I had not stopped our B757 airplane we might have been hit on runway 6R. I'm going to call the tower on return to lax to ask what happened. I do believe however, that lax area traffic is beginning to break down -- I believe that they need more help fast.

Narrative: ON NOV/XX/96, TIME XX15 AT LAX, LAX TWR CLRED FLT TO CROSS RWY 6R AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 6L. AS I BEGAN TO CROSS RWY 6R HOLD LINES, I LOOKED TO THE W WHERE I SAW AN ACR B747 BREAKING OUT OF OVCST AND ABOUT TO LAND ON RWY 6R. ESTIMATED DISTANCE 1/2 MI ESTIMATED CEILING 200 FT. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE AIRPLANE SHORT OF RWY 6R AND THE COPLT ADVISED TWR THAT WE WOULD BE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 6R DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE B747 WAS ABOUT TO LAND. THE TWR RESPONDED WITH A 'NEGATIVE.' AFTER THE B747 LANDED WE WERE CLRED ACROSS RWY 6R INTO POS ON RWY 6L. I BELIEVE IF I HAD NOT STOPPED OUR B757 AIRPLANE WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN HIT ON RWY 6R. I'M GOING TO CALL THE TWR ON RETURN TO LAX TO ASK WHAT HAPPENED. I DO BELIEVE HOWEVER, THAT LAX AREA TFC IS BEGINNING TO BREAK DOWN -- I BELIEVE THAT THEY NEED MORE HELP FAST.
