Narrative:
I flew to a friend's house in the country. I looked at a field west of his house to land. On a low pass down the center of the field to check ground condition and terrain, I cut a power line. By the time I saw the line I was too close to go over or go under. After striking I checked the plane's controls and returned to airport of origin to check plane for damage (14 mi). Take a better look at the field and area and do not depend on poles for line placement. The line was on a single pole 270 ft from main power line. The poles on main line were in a tree line on fence pole.
