Narrative:
I flew into 39A from asg. I back taxied to the only exit taxiway. I noticed a large sink hole extending all the way across the taxiway. I went across with no problem. I was on the ground about 1 1/2 hours. I taxied out easing across the sink, and when the nosewheel went into the sink the tips of the propeller hit the asphalt. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the damage was not very extreme, about 1/2 inch off the tip of each blade. Of course the engine did have to be torn down. The airport personnel would take no responsibility. Reporter believes the sink was about 6-8 inches and that it was not as deep on the north side as on the south side. That is probably why he made it taxiing in but did not make it on taxi out. He was being especially careful but to no avail. Reporter believes the airport has been sold to a trucking company and may not be an airport much longer.

Title: PA32A-300 PLT TAXIING ACROSS A SINK HOLE IN TXWY HAS PROP STRIKE. TXWY CONDITION SINK HOLE.
Narrative: I FLEW INTO 39A FROM ASG. I BACK TAXIED TO THE ONLY EXIT TXWY. I NOTICED A LARGE SINK HOLE EXTENDING ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE TXWY. I WENT ACROSS WITH NO PROB. I WAS ON THE GND ABOUT 1 1/2 HRS. I TAXIED OUT EASING ACROSS THE SINK, AND WHEN THE NOSEWHEEL WENT INTO THE SINK THE TIPS OF THE PROP HIT THE ASPHALT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT THE DAMAGE WAS NOT VERY EXTREME, ABOUT 1/2 INCH OFF THE TIP OF EACH BLADE. OF COURSE THE ENG DID HAVE TO BE TORN DOWN. THE ARPT PERSONNEL WOULD TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY. RPTR BELIEVES THE SINK WAS ABOUT 6-8 INCHES AND THAT IT WAS NOT AS DEEP ON THE N SIDE AS ON THE S SIDE. THAT IS PROBABLY WHY HE MADE IT TAXIING IN BUT DID NOT MAKE IT ON TAXI OUT. HE WAS BEING ESPECIALLY CAREFUL BUT TO NO AVAIL. RPTR BELIEVES THE ARPT HAS BEEN SOLD TO A TRUCKING COMPANY AND MAY NOT BE AN ARPT MUCH LONGER.
