Narrative:
Lost power right engine, aircraft yawed, remained full throttle on both engines. Right engine only put approximately 50 percent power, cleared for climb on course, made u-turn (1500 ft AGL, estimated) and requested land opposite direction of pattern traffic (none in pattern I could see or hear). Psp tower cleared me for a landing any runway after I informed tower of engine power loss. Landed without event. Did not tell approach I was switching back to tower as I was busy setting up for a possible single engine flight and landing. Did not need to feather right engine as it maintained partial power.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE PLT OF AN SMT HAS A PARTIAL PWR LOSS IN THE R ENG AFTER TKOF AND WAS ABLE TO REVERSE COURSE AND LAND SUCCESSFULLY IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF TFC WITH TWR APPROVAL.
Narrative: LOST PWR R ENG, ACFT YAWED, REMAINED FULL THROTTLE ON BOTH ENGS. R ENG ONLY PUT APPROX 50 PERCENT PWR, CLRED FOR CLB ON COURSE, MADE U-TURN (1500 FT AGL, ESTIMATED) AND REQUESTED LAND OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF PATTERN TFC (NONE IN PATTERN I COULD SEE OR HEAR). PSP TWR CLRED ME FOR A LNDG ANY RWY AFTER I INFORMED TWR OF ENG PWR LOSS. LANDED WITHOUT EVENT. DID NOT TELL APCH I WAS SWITCHING BACK TO TWR AS I WAS BUSY SETTING UP FOR A POSSIBLE SINGLE ENG FLT AND LNDG. DID NOT NEED TO FEATHER R ENG AS IT MAINTAINED PARTIAL PWR.
