Narrative:
Climbed through 1500 ft before being the correct DME distance from teb. I missed the departure instructions in nos. Confused the turn to heading instruction with the cleared to 3000 ft instruction in teterboro 4 departure. I had just been in a 45 min hold on a short flight into teterboro from frg and was expecting a long takeoff delay. I was surprised at the quick release, and had been assuming lots of time to study the departure instruction while waiting for release. I was cleared for departure almost immediately. Poor planning.
