Narrative:
Air carrier flight dtw-yyz dec/xx/96. We were cleared profile descent runway 33 toronto inbound from ywt VOR. I crossed ywt between 17000 ft and 13000 ft and crossed yyz 26 DME arc at 11000 ft 250 KTS. I did not see any 'except radar vectors to final' on the plate and misread the yyz 26 DME arc to be flown to the southeast to line up with runway 33 ILS. After I made turn for the arc ATC asked us what our heading was and gave us a vector of 60 degrees. I flew their headings to downwind and landed runway 33 ILS at yyz. I feel that I misread the plate because I believed that the arc was to be flown since the arc line is depicted on the chart, instead of just a crossing restr being shown. And no 'except radar vectors to final approach course' and arrows shown on the chart as I have seen on other profile dscnts.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT FOLLOWING PROFILE PROCS REACHED A CLRNC LIMIT WITHOUT RECEIVING FURTHER CLRNC FROM APCH CTL. RPTR CAPT ASSUMED HE SHOULD FOLLOW THE DME ARC. ATC INTERVENED WITH A NEW CLRNC HDG. PROFILE PROC SHOULD HAVE NOTE ADVISING FLCS TO EXPECT RADAR VECTOR AFTER THE 26 DME OR OTHERWISE ALERT FLCS WHAT TO EXPECT IF NO COM.
Narrative: ACR FLT DTW-YYZ DEC/XX/96. WE WERE CLRED PROFILE DSCNT RWY 33 TORONTO INBOUND FROM YWT VOR. I CROSSED YWT BTWN 17000 FT AND 13000 FT AND CROSSED YYZ 26 DME ARC AT 11000 FT 250 KTS. I DID NOT SEE ANY 'EXCEPT RADAR VECTORS TO FINAL' ON THE PLATE AND MISREAD THE YYZ 26 DME ARC TO BE FLOWN TO THE SE TO LINE UP WITH RWY 33 ILS. AFTER I MADE TURN FOR THE ARC ATC ASKED US WHAT OUR HDG WAS AND GAVE US A VECTOR OF 60 DEGS. I FLEW THEIR HDGS TO DOWNWIND AND LANDED RWY 33 ILS AT YYZ. I FEEL THAT I MISREAD THE PLATE BECAUSE I BELIEVED THAT THE ARC WAS TO BE FLOWN SINCE THE ARC LINE IS DEPICTED ON THE CHART, INSTEAD OF JUST A XING RESTR BEING SHOWN. AND NO 'EXCEPT RADAR VECTORS TO FINAL APCH COURSE' AND ARROWS SHOWN ON THE CHART AS I HAVE SEEN ON OTHER PROFILE DSCNTS.
