Narrative:
Precautionary landing due to rough engine and oil splashing on bottom of windshield. After landing on the former arc grass field the FAA inspector found oil dipstick removed from its original in place position. But to the surprise of mr a (FAA man) there were still 4 quarts of oil left in the engine. Further inspection of the engine showed an opening in the cylinder and piston. A failure of the valve keeper apparently caused this damage. The cylinder was replaced and the aircraft was flown back to caldwell, nj.
