Narrative:
Flight from ewr to iah on jan/sun/97. After departure, when retracting the gear, the nose gear did not retract. We notified departure and climbed to 5000 ft MSL. We cycled the ldng gear down and then up again. The nose gear remained down. Conferred with system control and maintenance control because the WX at ewr was low visibility with fog and the WX at iad was good. We should go to iad. Since we weighed 188000 pounds, we needed to reduce approximately 33000 pounds. The captain did not want to dump fuel so we remained at 6000 ft MSL en route to iad. Once we reached maximum landing weight, we continued the approach and made a normal landing. We were met at the gate by 2 airline mechanics who confirmed that all gear pins had been removed. After a several hour wait, mechanics discovered that a flashlight was jammed in the nose gear door assembly. The aircraft was put on jacks, the gear was retracted and checked and was signed back into service. We continued on to iah with no further complications.

Title: A B727 AFTER TKOF WAS UNABLE TO RETRACT THE NOSE LNDG GEAR. DIVERTED TO IAD. FOUND FLASHLIGHT JAMMED IN NOSE LNDG GEAR DOOR.
Narrative: FLT FROM EWR TO IAH ON JAN/SUN/97. AFTER DEP, WHEN RETRACTING THE GEAR, THE NOSE GEAR DID NOT RETRACT. WE NOTIFIED DEP AND CLBED TO 5000 FT MSL. WE CYCLED THE LDNG GEAR DOWN AND THEN UP AGAIN. THE NOSE GEAR REMAINED DOWN. CONFERRED WITH SYS CTL AND MAINT CTL BECAUSE THE WX AT EWR WAS LOW VISIBILITY WITH FOG AND THE WX AT IAD WAS GOOD. WE SHOULD GO TO IAD. SINCE WE WEIGHED 188000 LBS, WE NEEDED TO REDUCE APPROX 33000 LBS. THE CAPT DID NOT WANT TO DUMP FUEL SO WE REMAINED AT 6000 FT MSL ENRTE TO IAD. ONCE WE REACHED MAX LNDG WT, WE CONTINUED THE APCH AND MADE A NORMAL LNDG. WE WERE MET AT THE GATE BY 2 AIRLINE MECHS WHO CONFIRMED THAT ALL GEAR PINS HAD BEEN REMOVED. AFTER A SEVERAL HR WAIT, MECHS DISCOVERED THAT A FLASHLIGHT WAS JAMMED IN THE NOSE GEAR DOOR ASSEMBLY. THE ACFT WAS PUT ON JACKS, THE GEAR WAS RETRACTED AND CHKED AND WAS SIGNED BACK INTO SVC. WE CONTINUED ON TO IAH WITH NO FURTHER COMPLICATIONS.
