Narrative:
While on approach to tys and cleared approach, received GPWS warning. Captain was PF and executed missed approach. ATC instructed us to climb to 4000 ft. Due to high power setting and loss of concentration, awareness (whatever) we went to 4400 ft before recovering and airspeed exceeded 300 KTS. Continued with new approach and landed uneventfully. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: callback was to obtain name and address for reporter who had left it off the identify strip. Also, aircraft type verified as canadair regional jet. Reporter first officer didn't know what caused the GPWS 'terrain' warning, but surmised possible high terrain, though he says their descent rate was normal and on an intercept vector for the ILS. He says that they had had a hard day because they had heard of a canadair rj crashing in dtw.

Title: CANADAIR RJ-CL65 ACFT ON APCH IN IMC. GPWS 'TERRAIN' WARNING PROMPTS FLC TO EXECUTE GAR. CAUSE OF GPWS UNKNOWN. DURING GAR FLC WENT THROUGH ASSIGNED ALT BY 400 FT AND EXCEEDED 300 KTS. CALLBACK WITH RPTR FO REVEALS THAT THE FLC WAS DISTRACTED DUE TO A CANADAIR RJ WHICH HAD CRASHED THAT DAY.
Narrative: WHILE ON APCH TO TYS AND CLRED APCH, RECEIVED GPWS WARNING. CAPT WAS PF AND EXECUTED MISSED APCH. ATC INSTRUCTED US TO CLB TO 4000 FT. DUE TO HIGH PWR SETTING AND LOSS OF CONCENTRATION, AWARENESS (WHATEVER) WE WENT TO 4400 FT BEFORE RECOVERING AND AIRSPD EXCEEDED 300 KTS. CONTINUED WITH NEW APCH AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: CALLBACK WAS TO OBTAIN NAME AND ADDRESS FOR RPTR WHO HAD LEFT IT OFF THE IDENT STRIP. ALSO, ACFT TYPE VERIFIED AS CANADAIR REGIONAL JET. RPTR FO DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE GPWS 'TERRAIN' WARNING, BUT SURMISED POSSIBLE HIGH TERRAIN, THOUGH HE SAYS THEIR DSCNT RATE WAS NORMAL AND ON AN INTERCEPT VECTOR FOR THE ILS. HE SAYS THAT THEY HAD HAD A HARD DAY BECAUSE THEY HAD HEARD OF A CANADAIR RJ CRASHING IN DTW.
