Narrative:
While taxiing on parallel taxiway to runway 4 at hobby airport, with clearance to hold short of runway 12R, I was trying to hurry through the checklists and set up for the SID. I knew there was another turbine right behind me and I didn't want to hold everyone up by not being ready at runway 4. While doing the checklists I was distracted and did not notice the hold short line for runway 12R until my nosewheel crossed it. I applied maximum braking and heard the ground controller repeat the hold short instruction. I acknowledged the controller and maintained my position a few ft beyond the hold line. After an aircraft departed on runway 12R, I was cleared to continue taxi to runway 4. The sight of that B737 taking off on runway 12R and the thought that just a little more of a distraction might have meant that I would have been on his runway has haunted me since. I do not do checklists while taxiing now. The aircraft will be configured for takeoff and checklists completed before I depart the ramp area.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR JET TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 12R CROSSED THE HOLD LINE BECAUSE THE PLT WAS DISTRACTED PERFORMING THE CHKLIST.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING ON PARALLEL TXWY TO RWY 4 AT HOBBY ARPT, WITH CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 12R, I WAS TRYING TO HURRY THROUGH THE CHKLISTS AND SET UP FOR THE SID. I KNEW THERE WAS ANOTHER TURBINE RIGHT BEHIND ME AND I DIDN'T WANT TO HOLD EVERYONE UP BY NOT BEING READY AT RWY 4. WHILE DOING THE CHKLISTS I WAS DISTRACTED AND DID NOT NOTICE THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 12R UNTIL MY NOSEWHEEL CROSSED IT. I APPLIED MAX BRAKING AND HEARD THE GND CTLR REPEAT THE HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTION. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CTLR AND MAINTAINED MY POS A FEW FT BEYOND THE HOLD LINE. AFTER AN ACFT DEPARTED ON RWY 12R, I WAS CLRED TO CONTINUE TAXI TO RWY 4. THE SIGHT OF THAT B737 TAKING OFF ON RWY 12R AND THE THOUGHT THAT JUST A LITTLE MORE OF A DISTR MIGHT HAVE MEANT THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON HIS RWY HAS HAUNTED ME SINCE. I DO NOT DO CHKLISTS WHILE TAXIING NOW. THE ACFT WILL BE CONFIGURED FOR TKOF AND CHKLISTS COMPLETED BEFORE I DEPART THE RAMP AREA.
