Narrative:
Notified that maintenance had replaced cockpit fold down jump seat which normally has pbe (protective breathing equipment) unit and holding enclosure mounted to it with a new jump seat which had no pbe and no holding enclosure. I was notified 8 days after flying the aircraft of the discrepancy. Apparently, several other crews shared the same oversight. I believe that this oversight was exacerbated by the pbe holder/enclosure not being installed which would lead the crews to inspect the pbe according to normal procedures. Without the holder/enclosure installed, all appeared to be normal with all equipment accounted for in their place. Further, I cannot recall any mention in the aircraft's logbook of work performed on the jump seat which might have brought it to my attention.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG FAILED TO NOTE ON PREFLT, JUMP SEAT HAD BEEN REPLACED AND WAS MISSING THE PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIP. NO NOTATION HAD BEEN MADE IN THE LOGBOOK OF THE JUMP SEAT.
Narrative: NOTIFIED THAT MAINT HAD REPLACED COCKPIT FOLD DOWN JUMP SEAT WHICH NORMALLY HAS PBE (PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIP) UNIT AND HOLDING ENCLOSURE MOUNTED TO IT WITH A NEW JUMP SEAT WHICH HAD NO PBE AND NO HOLDING ENCLOSURE. I WAS NOTIFIED 8 DAYS AFTER FLYING THE ACFT OF THE DISCREPANCY. APPARENTLY, SEVERAL OTHER CREWS SHARED THE SAME OVERSIGHT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS OVERSIGHT WAS EXACERBATED BY THE PBE HOLDER/ENCLOSURE NOT BEING INSTALLED WHICH WOULD LEAD THE CREWS TO INSPECT THE PBE ACCORDING TO NORMAL PROCS. WITHOUT THE HOLDER/ENCLOSURE INSTALLED, ALL APPEARED TO BE NORMAL WITH ALL EQUIP ACCOUNTED FOR IN THEIR PLACE. FURTHER, I CANNOT RECALL ANY MENTION IN THE ACFT'S LOGBOOK OF WORK PERFORMED ON THE JUMP SEAT WHICH MIGHT HAVE BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTN.
