Narrative:
In cruise flight over solid fog layer, navigating on #1 VOR, needle centered. As I neared changeover point, I tuned and idented next VOR (czq) on #2 VOR. It showed course slightly to right. ATC called and said I was 3 mi left of course, gave vector 280 degrees. Soon he told me to turn on course -- I did, then used #2 rest of trip. No more problems. Checked vors against each other, within tolerance. In future, I'll use both vors and if different, ask position and adjust as needed.
