Narrative:
Approaching the gate, the right wingtip struck a parked catering truck. The aircraft was on line-up centerline. The truck was properly parked within marked clearance lines. Previously (approximately 2 weeks) the jetway had been replaced and a new line-up line painted on the ramp. The new line-up line was angled to the right of the original line. The equipment clearance lines had not been moved and repainted to reflect the new location of the new line-up line. As a result, the right wing overlapped the equipment clearance lines and the wingtip struck a properly parked catering truck. The rno airport authority/authorized was responsible for the jetway construction and ramp area. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that the lines have been repainted to align with the MD82 so that the boundaries are outside of the aircraft wingtip. He personally checked this out on a subsequent recent flight into the airport with the same type of aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN MD82 STRUCK A WINGTIP ON A CATERING TRUCK DURING PARKING CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE ACFT WINGTIP. THE TRUCK WAS PROPERLY PARKED PAST THE VEHICLE CLRNC LINE, BUT THE LINE HAD NOT BEEN REPAINTED AFTER THE ACFT 'LINE-UP' LINE HAD BEEN REPAINTED DUE TO A NEW JET WAY REPLACEMENT.
Narrative: APCHING THE GATE, THE R WINGTIP STRUCK A PARKED CATERING TRUCK. THE ACFT WAS ON LINE-UP CTRLINE. THE TRUCK WAS PROPERLY PARKED WITHIN MARKED CLRNC LINES. PREVIOUSLY (APPROX 2 WKS) THE JETWAY HAD BEEN REPLACED AND A NEW LINE-UP LINE PAINTED ON THE RAMP. THE NEW LINE-UP LINE WAS ANGLED TO THE R OF THE ORIGINAL LINE. THE EQUIP CLRNC LINES HAD NOT BEEN MOVED AND REPAINTED TO REFLECT THE NEW LOCATION OF THE NEW LINE-UP LINE. AS A RESULT, THE R WING OVERLAPPED THE EQUIP CLRNC LINES AND THE WINGTIP STRUCK A PROPERLY PARKED CATERING TRUCK. THE RNO ARPT AUTH WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE JETWAY CONSTRUCTION AND RAMP AREA. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT THE LINES HAVE BEEN REPAINTED TO ALIGN WITH THE MD82 SO THAT THE BOUNDARIES ARE OUTSIDE OF THE ACFT WINGTIP. HE PERSONALLY CHECKED THIS OUT ON A SUBSEQUENT RECENT FLT INTO THE ARPT WITH THE SAME TYPE OF ACFT.
