Narrative:
As so, after a normal landing in richmond, va, we were taxiing towards the gate area when, during a left turn to an adjoining taxiway, the left main gear departed the taxiway and got stuck in the mud. We alerted ric operations and requested a tow vehicle. There were no injuries to passenger or crew. There was no damage to neither aircraft or ground facilities. What we think can be done to correct the situation: increase awareness to pilots of taxiway restrs by noting them on the airport industry page. Install a lighted taxiway restr sign for night operations. Note: there is an existing sign present but it is not lit and the markings are barely visible. More detailed taxi instructions for taxiing to the gate. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he did not remember what taxiway was used, but it was turning on to a taxiway leading to the gate area. He strongly believes that the caution/restr sign near the area of excursion should be lighted since it is difficult to see at night. He also believes that there is construction in the area?
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A B727 INADVERTENTLY TAXIED OFF TXWY WHEN TURNING ON TO AN ADJOINING TXWY RESULTING IN BECOMING STUCK IN THE MUD AND NEEDING A TOW TO CONTINUE TO THE GATE. THERE WAS NO ACFT DAMAGE OR PAX OR CREW INJURIES.
Narrative: AS SO, AFTER A NORMAL LNDG IN RICHMOND, VA, WE WERE TAXIING TOWARDS THE GATE AREA WHEN, DURING A L TURN TO AN ADJOINING TXWY, THE L MAIN GEAR DEPARTED THE TXWY AND GOT STUCK IN THE MUD. WE ALERTED RIC OPS AND REQUESTED A TOW VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO PAX OR CREW. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO NEITHER ACFT OR GND FACILITIES. WHAT WE THINK CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THE SIT: INCREASE AWARENESS TO PLTS OF TXWY RESTRS BY NOTING THEM ON THE ARPT INDUSTRY PAGE. INSTALL A LIGHTED TXWY RESTR SIGN FOR NIGHT OPS. NOTE: THERE IS AN EXISTING SIGN PRESENT BUT IT IS NOT LIT AND THE MARKINGS ARE BARELY VISIBLE. MORE DETAILED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FOR TAXIING TO THE GATE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE DID NOT REMEMBER WHAT TXWY WAS USED, BUT IT WAS TURNING ON TO A TXWY LEADING TO THE GATE AREA. HE STRONGLY BELIEVES THAT THE CAUTION/RESTR SIGN NEAR THE AREA OF EXCURSION SHOULD BE LIGHTED SINCE IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE AT NIGHT. HE ALSO BELIEVES THAT THERE IS CONSTRUCTION IN THE AREA?
