Narrative:
I was in an aircraft with a brand new student pilot. I had never flown with this student and he had no flying experience. My student called ready for takeoff and I repeated back the position and hold instructions. I got very caught up in instructing my student. He went across the hold short line with excessive power and brakes. I was telling him not to do this as I completed the items he missed on his before takeoff checklist, (ie, strobes, transponder, fuel pump). We rolled out on centerline, applied full power and took off, instead of holding. I learned after I got back from this flight another aircraft aborted takeoff about brake release. There were no close calls between 2 aircraft. The tapes from ATC were played back and I learned I did repeat back 'position and hold.' I didn't however hear ATC say there was a departing aircraft on an intersecting runway. My judgement was lacking from allowing myself to be too involved inside the cockpit instead of being completely aware of my situation, especially being an example to a new student.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TB9 TAMPICO TRAINING FLT WITH A NEW STUDENT WAS CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 34. STUDENT USED EXCESSIVE PWR MOVING ONTO RWY AND INSTRUCTOR DISTRACTED. TKOF PWR WAS ADDED WHEN IN POS AND TKOF MAKE. COMPANY ACFT ON INTERSECTING RWY WAS TOLD TO ABORT TKOF.
Narrative: I WAS IN AN ACFT WITH A BRAND NEW STUDENT PLT. I HAD NEVER FLOWN WITH THIS STUDENT AND HE HAD NO FLYING EXPERIENCE. MY STUDENT CALLED READY FOR TKOF AND I REPEATED BACK THE POS AND HOLD INSTRUCTIONS. I GOT VERY CAUGHT UP IN INSTRUCTING MY STUDENT. HE WENT ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE WITH EXCESSIVE PWR AND BRAKES. I WAS TELLING HIM NOT TO DO THIS AS I COMPLETED THE ITEMS HE MISSED ON HIS BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST, (IE, STROBES, XPONDER, FUEL PUMP). WE ROLLED OUT ON CTRLINE, APPLIED FULL PWR AND TOOK OFF, INSTEAD OF HOLDING. I LEARNED AFTER I GOT BACK FROM THIS FLT ANOTHER ACFT ABORTED TKOF ABOUT BRAKE RELEASE. THERE WERE NO CLOSE CALLS BTWN 2 ACFT. THE TAPES FROM ATC WERE PLAYED BACK AND I LEARNED I DID REPEAT BACK 'POS AND HOLD.' I DIDN'T HOWEVER HEAR ATC SAY THERE WAS A DEPARTING ACFT ON AN INTERSECTING RWY. MY JUDGEMENT WAS LACKING FROM ALLOWING MYSELF TO BE TOO INVOLVED INSIDE THE COCKPIT INSTEAD OF BEING COMPLETELY AWARE OF MY SIT, ESPECIALLY BEING AN EXAMPLE TO A NEW STUDENT.
