Narrative:
Taxi to runway 28L cmh, night VMC. Stopped once on taxi out to review commercial 10-9 page on the proper route to runway 28L. Called tower to verify route. Ground taxi markings difficult to see at night. The hold line for runway 23 and runway 28L are very confusing. Taxied past what was believed to be runway 23 hold line and made a right turn to runway 28L. Realized we had crossed the joint runway 23/28L hold line and stopped. Called tower and told them we were ready for takeoff. Tower informed us we were past the hold line for future reference. Tower said that 'everybody did it' and they had complained about the markings to the city. Callback conversation with reporter acn #366197 revealed the following information: the reporter flies as an instructor check flight flight engineer. He was giving IOE training to a new flight engineer. Neither of these gentlemen were paying much attention to where the aircraft was on the taxiway as they were slightly behind in their duties to get the aircraft ready for takeoff. The reporter heard the communication between the pilots and the ATCT to learn that there had been a runway incursion and 'that everybody does it.' the reporter believes that a flashing sign could alleviate this. He is now aware of the FAA hotline.

Title: AN ACR MLG TAXIED PAST THE TXWY HOLD SHORT LINES FOR RWY 28L AND RWY 23.
Narrative: TAXI TO RWY 28L CMH, NIGHT VMC. STOPPED ONCE ON TAXI OUT TO REVIEW COMMERCIAL 10-9 PAGE ON THE PROPER RTE TO RWY 28L. CALLED TWR TO VERIFY RTE. GND TAXI MARKINGS DIFFICULT TO SEE AT NIGHT. THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 23 AND RWY 28L ARE VERY CONFUSING. TAXIED PAST WHAT WAS BELIEVED TO BE RWY 23 HOLD LINE AND MADE A R TURN TO RWY 28L. REALIZED WE HAD CROSSED THE JOINT RWY 23/28L HOLD LINE AND STOPPED. CALLED TWR AND TOLD THEM WE WERE READY FOR TKOF. TWR INFORMED US WE WERE PAST THE HOLD LINE FOR FUTURE REF. TWR SAID THAT 'EVERYBODY DID IT' AND THEY HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE MARKINGS TO THE CITY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN #366197 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR FLIES AS AN INSTRUCTOR CHK FLT FE. HE WAS GIVING IOE TRAINING TO A NEW FE. NEITHER OF THESE GENTLEMEN WERE PAYING MUCH ATTN TO WHERE THE ACFT WAS ON THE TXWY AS THEY WERE SLIGHTLY BEHIND IN THEIR DUTIES TO GET THE ACFT READY FOR TKOF. THE RPTR HEARD THE COM BTWN THE PLTS AND THE ATCT TO LEARN THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RWY INCURSION AND 'THAT EVERYBODY DOES IT.' THE RPTR BELIEVES THAT A FLASHING SIGN COULD ALLEVIATE THIS. HE IS NOW AWARE OF THE FAA HOTLINE.
