Narrative:

I believe the captain was in a hurry to get the day finished. I was flying the aircraft, and had never flown into los alamos airport. The visibility was about 25 mi with broken and scattered clouds at about 6000 ft. We did not fly the course to 58 DME off abq VOR, instead we canceled and went visually trying to stay out of clouds. We had to lose altitude to avoid clouds and spot the airport, which doesn't have an instrument approach or tower and is located in rugged terrain. In my haste I believe altitudes were violated in the restr airspace trying to avoid clouds. The next time I fly this trip, I will insist on flying the company approved procedure. If we see the airport, fine. If not, we can try it another day.
