Narrative:
While on an ILS approach to runway 4L at ewr, I felt the aircraft yaw to the left for several seconds before the captain exclaimed 'I've lost #1.' I verified that the torque was zero. We initiated and completed the immediate action items, memory items and landing checklist. We declared an emergency and landed the aircraft without further incident. Upon clearing the runway, we accomplished the secondary items on the engine failure-fire checklist and the after landing checklist. The passenger were deplaned in the normal manner at the gate. Although we accomplished the checklists appropriately and in a timely manner, it is worth noting that we had little training in managing power loss while on final approach.
