Narrative:
The aircraft was parked on ramp B which is combined with ramp C. We were cleared to taxi to runway 1. After making a left turn on ramp B our position on the taxi out line puts us directly in front of P2 which puts you on the runway. There is no differentiation between ramp B and the taxiway to runway 1. Our position looking directly at P2 looks like the logical route to a taxiway to runway 1 -- instead, it leads you directly onto the runway. There are no clear markings for this P2/runway 1 taxi route. You must taxi down the ramp to get to runway 1 (see attached copy of taxiway chart). After making a left turn on ramp B, we were directly lined up with P2 and continued to taxi until we were told to stop by ground control. Stop bars at P2 and better markings would prevent you from taxiing onto P2 which puts you directly on the runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A HVT MISSED ASSIGNED TXWY WHEN TURNING OUT OF RAMP AND STARTED TAXIING ON ACTIVE RWY TO WHICH HE WAS ASSIGNED RESULTING IN GND CTL INTERVENING TO STOP ACFT AND REDIRECT TO THE PROPER TXWY. THE RPTR BLAMES LACK OF ADEQUATE MARKING AND SIGNS SINCE THE RAMP AREA IS ALSO A PORTION OF THE MAIN TXWY.
Narrative: THE ACFT WAS PARKED ON RAMP B WHICH IS COMBINED WITH RAMP C. WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 1. AFTER MAKING A L TURN ON RAMP B OUR POS ON THE TAXI OUT LINE PUTS US DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF P2 WHICH PUTS YOU ON THE RWY. THERE IS NO DIFFERENTIATION BTWN RAMP B AND THE TXWY TO RWY 1. OUR POS LOOKING DIRECTLY AT P2 LOOKS LIKE THE LOGICAL RTE TO A TXWY TO RWY 1 -- INSTEAD, IT LEADS YOU DIRECTLY ONTO THE RWY. THERE ARE NO CLR MARKINGS FOR THIS P2/RWY 1 TAXI RTE. YOU MUST TAXI DOWN THE RAMP TO GET TO RWY 1 (SEE ATTACHED COPY OF TXWY CHART). AFTER MAKING A L TURN ON RAMP B, WE WERE DIRECTLY LINED UP WITH P2 AND CONTINUED TO TAXI UNTIL WE WERE TOLD TO STOP BY GND CTL. STOP BARS AT P2 AND BETTER MARKINGS WOULD PREVENT YOU FROM TAXIING ONTO P2 WHICH PUTS YOU DIRECTLY ON THE RWY.
