Narrative:

I was at pattern altitude 2000 ft MSL, right closed traffic to runway 1. I had made the correct radio announcements to glendale traffic, stating my intentions and movements in the pattern. I was on the downwind leg of the pattern when I observed a bonanza on final to runway 1, I made a radio call stating my position to local traffic with negative response. I was configuring my aircraft for landing confign. I turned base leg, and made my call on the radio, and scanning outside the aircraft for traffic. I then turned final announcing my intentions to perform a touch and go landing, and that I was going to stay on the pattern. I had lined up for final, and I had noticed that the bonanza was not clear of the runway. I then noticed at that time that my radio was improperly tuned to the unicom frequency, and that the proper frequency of 121.00 MHZ was channeled into the standby selection on the radio. Upon these factors I decided to as PIC to perform a 360 degree spiral to realign myself to runway 1. I then proceeded with my announced maneuver, and executed the touch and go. Upon climb out I immediately re- channeled my radio and contacted the tower. The tower inquired of my intentions, whereupon I responded that I wanted to execute a full stop landing. The tower approved my request, and then requested that I contact them upon landing my aircraft. I landed my aircraft and taxied to parking, contacting the glendale ground reaffirming that I would contact them by phone inside of the main terminal, and the tower responded that this was acceptable. Upon parking and securing my aircraft, an instructor from FBO and I had a brief discussion of the events that had led to the previous incident. The primary issues discussed was my limited familiarity with the aircraft, and the 6 month period prior to the recent 3 hours of flight that I had not flown. The issue of my heightened concern with operating and flying the aircraft that I had overlooked my radio communications in lieu aircraft handling and movement.

Title: LOW TIME PA28 PLT FAILED TO CONTACT CTL TWR PRIOR TO PERFORMING TOUCH AND GO LNDGS. FURTHER, HE WAS ANNOUNCING HIS INTENTIONS VIA UNICOM ON THE WRONG FREQ. HE ENTERED THE PATTERN, MADE A 360 DEG TURN ON FINAL APCH AND THEN A TOUCH AND GO LNDG WITHOUT ATC CLRNC.

Narrative: I WAS AT PATTERN ALT 2000 FT MSL, R CLOSED TFC TO RWY 1. I HAD MADE THE CORRECT RADIO ANNOUNCEMENTS TO GLENDALE TFC, STATING MY INTENTIONS AND MOVEMENTS IN THE PATTERN. I WAS ON THE DOWNWIND LEG OF THE PATTERN WHEN I OBSERVED A BONANZA ON FINAL TO RWY 1, I MADE A RADIO CALL STATING MY POS TO LCL TFC WITH NEGATIVE RESPONSE. I WAS CONFIGURING MY ACFT FOR LNDG CONFIGN. I TURNED BASE LEG, AND MADE MY CALL ON THE RADIO, AND SCANNING OUTSIDE THE ACFT FOR TFC. I THEN TURNED FINAL ANNOUNCING MY INTENTIONS TO PERFORM A TOUCH AND GO LNDG, AND THAT I WAS GOING TO STAY ON THE PATTERN. I HAD LINED UP FOR FINAL, AND I HAD NOTICED THAT THE BONANZA WAS NOT CLR OF THE RWY. I THEN NOTICED AT THAT TIME THAT MY RADIO WAS IMPROPERLY TUNED TO THE UNICOM FREQ, AND THAT THE PROPER FREQ OF 121.00 MHZ WAS CHANNELED INTO THE STANDBY SELECTION ON THE RADIO. UPON THESE FACTORS I DECIDED TO AS PIC TO PERFORM A 360 DEG SPIRAL TO REALIGN MYSELF TO RWY 1. I THEN PROCEEDED WITH MY ANNOUNCED MANEUVER, AND EXECUTED THE TOUCH AND GO. UPON CLBOUT I IMMEDIATELY RE- CHANNELED MY RADIO AND CONTACTED THE TWR. THE TWR INQUIRED OF MY INTENTIONS, WHEREUPON I RESPONDED THAT I WANTED TO EXECUTE A FULL STOP LNDG. THE TWR APPROVED MY REQUEST, AND THEN REQUESTED THAT I CONTACT THEM UPON LNDG MY ACFT. I LANDED MY ACFT AND TAXIED TO PARKING, CONTACTING THE GLENDALE GND REAFFIRMING THAT I WOULD CONTACT THEM BY PHONE INSIDE OF THE MAIN TERMINAL, AND THE TWR RESPONDED THAT THIS WAS ACCEPTABLE. UPON PARKING AND SECURING MY ACFT, AN INSTRUCTOR FROM FBO AND I HAD A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE EVENTS THAT HAD LED TO THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT. THE PRIMARY ISSUES DISCUSSED WAS MY LIMITED FAMILIARITY WITH THE ACFT, AND THE 6 MONTH PERIOD PRIOR TO THE RECENT 3 HRS OF FLT THAT I HAD NOT FLOWN. THE ISSUE OF MY HEIGHTENED CONCERN WITH OPERATING AND FLYING THE ACFT THAT I HAD OVERLOOKED MY RADIO COMS IN LIEU ACFT HANDLING AND MOVEMENT.
