Narrative:
Flight departed runway 19R and was given a 90 degree left turn immediately after takeoff to stay clear of runways 9/27. At approximately 3500 ft we were given another 90 degree turn back to the right. We had been wondering why the turns were given, and I never heard the '500 ft to go' call, if it was given. I was late initiating the leveloff for 4000 ft which we were cleared to. We got approximately 300 ft above assigned altitude during the leveloff and immediate return to 4000 ft.
