Center questioned our heading for course. INS was aggressively correcting course after receiving update information. Center suggested 15 degrees left heading to maintain course. Avoid by manual intercept after update.

Title: DC8 FREIGHTER ACFT OFF COURSE FROM AIRWAY. WAS USING INS AS PRIMARY NAV SYS. FAILED TO BACK UP WITH VOR FOR RADIAL REF. CORRECTING BACK ON COURSE AFTER THE FLC UPDATED INS INFO. NEW FO MAY HAVE INITIALLY MIS-PROGRAMMED THE INS.
