Narrative:
Flight normal until approach. Proper briefing and set-up was done for runway 17R, and I felt prepared. ATIS WX almost VFR, although radar looked rainy. I was hand flying with the flight director on, and our vector caused us to overshoot final about 10 mi out. As I was turning to correct, now in a fairly heavy rainshower, I got some vertigo, and should have given it to the first officer, but I kept it and flew a very sloppy approach. The first officer and flight engineer were making callouts to help me get squared away. With this distraction, we apparently didn't call tower and landed without clearance. In the rain, I should have been flying a coupled approach. More important, I should have gotten up and stretched a bit about an hour prior to landing after this rather long all- nighter. That most likely would have avoided this entire incident. Supplemental information from acn 369791: during this very busy approach, I changed to tower frequency, as instructed. While monitoring the final phase of the approach, I believe I failed to verify the landing clearance.

Title: DC10 CAPT STATES VERTIGO AFFECTS HIS PERFORMANCE DURING A NIGHT ILS APCH AT DFW IN A RAINSHOWER.
Narrative: FLT NORMAL UNTIL APCH. PROPER BRIEFING AND SET-UP WAS DONE FOR RWY 17R, AND I FELT PREPARED. ATIS WX ALMOST VFR, ALTHOUGH RADAR LOOKED RAINY. I WAS HAND FLYING WITH THE FLT DIRECTOR ON, AND OUR VECTOR CAUSED US TO OVERSHOOT FINAL ABOUT 10 MI OUT. AS I WAS TURNING TO CORRECT, NOW IN A FAIRLY HVY RAINSHOWER, I GOT SOME VERTIGO, AND SHOULD HAVE GIVEN IT TO THE FO, BUT I KEPT IT AND FLEW A VERY SLOPPY APCH. THE FO AND FE WERE MAKING CALLOUTS TO HELP ME GET SQUARED AWAY. WITH THIS DISTR, WE APPARENTLY DIDN'T CALL TWR AND LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC. IN THE RAIN, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN FLYING A COUPLED APCH.
