Narrative:
After cruising at FL240, center gave descent to FL210. Upon reaching FL210, center came on with a strange tone in her voice and said 'maintain FL210.' sensing her tone and being level at FL210, we switched xponders and nothing else was said. Wrote it up, just in case.

Title: COMMUTER PIC RPT OF POSSIBLE CONFUSION OVER AN ALT ASSIGNMENT FROM ATC. AFTER ARRIVING AT THE NEWLY ASSIGNED ALT, CTR CTLR REAFFIRMED THE ALT GIVEN. PIC THOUGHT PERHAPS THE MODE C WAS A PROB, SWITCHED XPONDERS, WRITING IT UP AT DEST.
