Narrative:
We were holding short on the hold line for runway 9L and runway 12 when we heard our flight number 'xyz position and hold, runway 12,' by the control tower. After we went past the hold line, the control tower said for xyz to hold short for runway 9L. I asked if we were just cleared to position and hold on runway 12, and the control tower said he may have called our flight number by mistake, but stay clear of runway 9L. There was a company SF340B already holding on runway 9L, but it's common practice for mia tower to have 2 or more aircraft holding on a runway, and then stagger the departures. We held short until the other SF340 took off, then we were cleared for takeoff.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATCT LCL CTLR CLRS AN SF340 ONTO RWY 12 AT MIA BUT CHANGES HIS MIND REGARDING THE RWY ASSIGNMENT. HOWEVER, THE SF340 HAS NOW CROSSED THE MUTUAL HOLD LINE FOR RWYS 12 AND 9L. CTLR STOPS ANY FURTHER TAXI.
Narrative: WE WERE HOLDING SHORT ON THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 9L AND RWY 12 WHEN WE HEARD OUR FLT NUMBER 'XYZ POS AND HOLD, RWY 12,' BY THE CTL TWR. AFTER WE WENT PAST THE HOLD LINE, THE CTL TWR SAID FOR XYZ TO HOLD SHORT FOR RWY 9L. I ASKED IF WE WERE JUST CLRED TO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 12, AND THE CTL TWR SAID HE MAY HAVE CALLED OUR FLT NUMBER BY MISTAKE, BUT STAY CLR OF RWY 9L. THERE WAS A COMPANY SF340B ALREADY HOLDING ON RWY 9L, BUT IT'S COMMON PRACTICE FOR MIA TWR TO HAVE 2 OR MORE ACFT HOLDING ON A RWY, AND THEN STAGGER THE DEPS. WE HELD SHORT UNTIL THE OTHER SF340 TOOK OFF, THEN WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF.
