Narrative:
I was given clearance to climb to 15000 ft from 13000 ft. I had put the plane on autoplt. The sun was glaring on the annunciators showing altitude capture and I inadvertently trimmed the plane when the altitude had already been captured and of course took the plane off of altitude hold. I didn't recognize I had done this till the altitude warning went off at 15300 ft. I arrested the climb at 15400 ft and almost immediately center cleared us up to 16000 ft. We leveled off at 16000 ft with no further problem. In the future I'll always be certain to be sure even when I'm on autoplt to see that the plane is actually doing what I want it to.

Title: BE20 PLT HAS AN ALT EXCURSION WHEN THE AUTOPLT ALT HOLD DISCONNECTS AFTER HIS USE OF ELEVATOR TRIM. PLT HAD NOT REALIZED THAT THE ALT CAPTURE HAD OCCURRED AS THE SUN WAS SHINING ON THE ALT CAPTURE PANEL LIGHT.
Narrative: I WAS GIVEN CLRNC TO CLB TO 15000 FT FROM 13000 FT. I HAD PUT THE PLANE ON AUTOPLT. THE SUN WAS GLARING ON THE ANNUNCIATORS SHOWING ALT CAPTURE AND I INADVERTENTLY TRIMMED THE PLANE WHEN THE ALT HAD ALREADY BEEN CAPTURED AND OF COURSE TOOK THE PLANE OFF OF ALT HOLD. I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE I HAD DONE THIS TILL THE ALT WARNING WENT OFF AT 15300 FT. I ARRESTED THE CLB AT 15400 FT AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY CTR CLRED US UP TO 16000 FT. WE LEVELED OFF AT 16000 FT WITH NO FURTHER PROB. IN THE FUTURE I'LL ALWAYS BE CERTAIN TO BE SURE EVEN WHEN I'M ON AUTOPLT TO SEE THAT THE PLANE IS ACTUALLY DOING WHAT I WANT IT TO.
