Narrative:
Location: lga 310 degrees at 50 KTS. Passing 10000 ft and accelerating through 270 KTS I was cleared to 16000 ft and asked for best rate. As I was raising the nose of the aircraft and planning my climb, ATC assigned 250 KTS. It occurred to me at the time that the controller had the same idea I had. Reaching 16000 ft I accelerated to normal cruise speed not realizing the 250 KT restr was still in effect. ATC noted the error and gave spacing vectors.
