Narrative:
Clearance delivery assigned me a discrete transponder code to squawk and routing instructions. Later, departure control approved an 'immediate l-hand turn, ascend through class B airspace at your discretion -- no altitude restr.' (this was given after I again requested a l-hand turn, departing runway 14, toward ft bridger, wy.) I assumed that I was thereby approved to exit and enter class B airspace as needed to avoid rapidly rising terrain. What causes me some concern is the 'farewell' I received from departure control: 'north-number you have re-entered class B airspace, 2 mi, squawk VFR, frequency change approved.' I acknowledged with 'squawk VFR, good day.' no further mention was made and as I progressed throughout the flight I wondered if re-entry of class B was prohibited even though I was squawking a discrete code and presumed under control throughout.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C182 PLT WAS GIVEN PERMISSION TO ENTER CLASS B AIRSPACE IN ORDER TO CLB 'AT HIS DISCRETION.' HE LATER EXITED CLASS B AND THEN RE-ENTERED CLASS B. THE DEP CTLR LED HIM TO BELIEVE THAT HIS ACTIONS WERE WRONG.
Narrative: CLRNC DELIVERY ASSIGNED ME A DISCRETE XPONDER CODE TO SQUAWK AND ROUTING INSTRUCTIONS. LATER, DEP CTL APPROVED AN 'IMMEDIATE L-HAND TURN, ASCEND THROUGH CLASS B AIRSPACE AT YOUR DISCRETION -- NO ALT RESTR.' (THIS WAS GIVEN AFTER I AGAIN REQUESTED A L-HAND TURN, DEPARTING RWY 14, TOWARD FT BRIDGER, WY.) I ASSUMED THAT I WAS THEREBY APPROVED TO EXIT AND ENTER CLASS B AIRSPACE AS NEEDED TO AVOID RAPIDLY RISING TERRAIN. WHAT CAUSES ME SOME CONCERN IS THE 'FAREWELL' I RECEIVED FROM DEP CTL: 'N-NUMBER YOU HAVE RE-ENTERED CLASS B AIRSPACE, 2 MI, SQUAWK VFR, FREQ CHANGE APPROVED.' I ACKNOWLEDGED WITH 'SQUAWK VFR, GOOD DAY.' NO FURTHER MENTION WAS MADE AND AS I PROGRESSED THROUGHOUT THE FLT I WONDERED IF RE-ENTRY OF CLASS B WAS PROHIBITED EVEN THOUGH I WAS SQUAWKING A DISCRETE CODE AND PRESUMED UNDER CTL THROUGHOUT.
