Controller cleared us to FL220, then said descend to FL210. Believe the controller had traffic already assigned to FL220. We descended immediately to FL210, no conflict.

Title: MLG FLC IS GIVEN AN ALT ASSIGNMENT AND UPON REACHING THE ALT IS CHANGED TO 1000 FT LOWER. POSSIBLE TFC ALREADY ASSIGNED TO FIRST ALT.
Narrative: CTLR CLRED US TO FL220, THEN SAID DSND TO FL210. BELIEVE THE CTLR HAD TFC ALREADY ASSIGNED TO FL220. WE DSNDED IMMEDIATELY TO FL210, NO CONFLICT.
