Narrative:
On approach to runway 25L lax at 27 DME, ATC instructed us to level and maintain 10000 ft due to VFR traffic at 9500 ft. As we maintained 10000 ft, our TCASII showed the traffic, now yellow TA, climbing up towards us, 12 O'clock, 5 mi (approximately). As he got to within 300 ft or so, we started evasive action, and got a TCASII RA 'climb, climb now.' we climbed to 11500 ft while advising ATC. After clear of traffic (we never saw him), we continued approach and landed normally. A near miss report has been filed with socal TRACON. It appeared that the VFR aircraft was climbing up the ILS going the wrong way. Hope he got flipped over from our wake turbulence during the emergency climb maneuver.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B747 ACFT ON ARR AND MAINTAINING 10000 FT WAS ADVISED BY TRACON OF 12 O'CLOCK TFC AT 9500 FT. APPARENTLY THE VFR TFC PLT COMMENCED CLBING INTO RPTR ACFT REQUIRING EVASIVE ACTION.
Narrative: ON APCH TO RWY 25L LAX AT 27 DME, ATC INSTRUCTED US TO LEVEL AND MAINTAIN 10000 FT DUE TO VFR TFC AT 9500 FT. AS WE MAINTAINED 10000 FT, OUR TCASII SHOWED THE TFC, NOW YELLOW TA, CLBING UP TOWARDS US, 12 O'CLOCK, 5 MI (APPROX). AS HE GOT TO WITHIN 300 FT OR SO, WE STARTED EVASIVE ACTION, AND GOT A TCASII RA 'CLB, CLB NOW.' WE CLBED TO 11500 FT WHILE ADVISING ATC. AFTER CLR OF TFC (WE NEVER SAW HIM), WE CONTINUED APCH AND LANDED NORMALLY. A NEAR MISS RPT HAS BEEN FILED WITH SOCAL TRACON. IT APPEARED THAT THE VFR ACFT WAS CLBING UP THE ILS GOING THE WRONG WAY. HOPE HE GOT FLIPPED OVER FROM OUR WAKE TURB DURING THE EMER CLB MANEUVER.
