Narrative:

Captain was deviating around WX. Center required us to descend from FL330 to FL310 before turning 30 degrees right. The delay in turning resulted in us flying through the edge of a cell and encountering severe turbulence for 20 seconds. During the turbulence we gained 1000 ft then returned to FL310. We continued on with no further events.
