Narrative:
At the end of the 4TH leg of the day, I was preparing to fill out the IOE time record form for a new captain (first day of IOE). Although not required for this form I usually obtain the pilot's certificate number and medical class and date for use later on the pilot line check form which is filled out after the completion of his IOE. While checking his new temporary certificate, I noticed that the date of expiration for the designated examiner who issued the temporary certificate had expired approximately 3 months before the temporary certificate was issued. Upon discovering this problem I notified the company, chief pilot, and director of operations. The pilot was removed from the line pending the correction of his certificate. I believe that the examiner is current and qualified but this is not evident from the information on the certificate. I recommend that IOE check airmen now check all certificates and medicals prior to the first flight, in spite of company procedures which are designed to catch these problems before they reach this level. New pilot certificate (temporary) was issued by original designated examiner to correct error in expiration date.

Title: CHK [LT FOR AN SF340 ACR OPERATOR NOTICED AFTER SEVERAL FLTS THAT THE NEW CAPT BEING GIVEN AN IOE CHK HAD AN INVALID TEMPORARY PLT CERTIFICATE DUE TO THE DESIGNATED EXAMINER'S DESIGNATION DATE HAVING EXPIRED 3 MONTHS BEFORE THE DATE OF ISSUANCE.
Narrative: AT THE END OF THE 4TH LEG OF THE DAY, I WAS PREPARING TO FILL OUT THE IOE TIME RECORD FORM FOR A NEW CAPT (FIRST DAY OF IOE). ALTHOUGH NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS FORM I USUALLY OBTAIN THE PLT'S CERTIFICATE NUMBER AND MEDICAL CLASS AND DATE FOR USE LATER ON THE PLT LINE CHK FORM WHICH IS FILLED OUT AFTER THE COMPLETION OF HIS IOE. WHILE CHKING HIS NEW TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE, I NOTICED THAT THE DATE OF EXPIRATION FOR THE DESIGNATED EXAMINER WHO ISSUED THE TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE HAD EXPIRED APPROX 3 MONTHS BEFORE THE TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE WAS ISSUED. UPON DISCOVERING THIS PROB I NOTIFIED THE COMPANY, CHIEF PLT, AND DIRECTOR OF OPS. THE PLT WAS REMOVED FROM THE LINE PENDING THE CORRECTION OF HIS CERTIFICATE. I BELIEVE THAT THE EXAMINER IS CURRENT AND QUALIFIED BUT THIS IS NOT EVIDENT FROM THE INFO ON THE CERTIFICATE. I RECOMMEND THAT IOE CHK AIRMEN NOW CHK ALL CERTIFICATES AND MEDICALS PRIOR TO THE FIRST FLT, IN SPITE OF COMPANY PROCS WHICH ARE DESIGNED TO CATCH THESE PROBS BEFORE THEY REACH THIS LEVEL. NEW PLT CERTIFICATE (TEMPORARY) WAS ISSUED BY ORIGINAL DESIGNATED EXAMINER TO CORRECT ERROR IN EXPIRATION DATE.
