Narrative:
Beautiful night, doing takeoffs and lndgs with clearance for the option. No one else in the pattern. On climb out verified with tower left or right traffic. While on downwind someone a number of mi out called the tower for landing. Their call lasted most of the circuit (they had an orientation problem). I landed without the option clearance and realized it on climb out. Having already talked to the tower on this circuit could possibly have contributed to not calling for the option clearance on downwind. Be aware that fine flying conditions can lead to complacency. Never allow a distraction to interfere with conducting a flight properly.

Title: CFI IN A C152 FORGOT TO OBTAIN TOUCH AND GO LNDG CLRNC DURING NIGHT TKOF AND LNDG PRACTICE DUE TO DISTR OF FREQ CONGESTION.
Narrative: BEAUTIFUL NIGHT, DOING TKOFS AND LNDGS WITH CLRNC FOR THE OPTION. NO ONE ELSE IN THE PATTERN. ON CLBOUT VERIFIED WITH TWR L OR R TFC. WHILE ON DOWNWIND SOMEONE A NUMBER OF MI OUT CALLED THE TWR FOR LNDG. THEIR CALL LASTED MOST OF THE CIRCUIT (THEY HAD AN ORIENTATION PROB). I LANDED WITHOUT THE OPTION CLRNC AND REALIZED IT ON CLBOUT. HAVING ALREADY TALKED TO THE TWR ON THIS CIRCUIT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO NOT CALLING FOR THE OPTION CLRNC ON DOWNWIND. BE AWARE THAT FINE FLYING CONDITIONS CAN LEAD TO COMPLACENCY. NEVER ALLOW A DISTR TO INTERFERE WITH CONDUCTING A FLT PROPERLY.
