Narrative:

We were #3 for takeoff runway 29R, an air carrier B727 was ahead of us in line. Tower was confused as to the B727 flight number. When the air carrier B727 was cleared position and hold, they (tower) also asked our flight number (msp-atw) #2 position in hold behind the B727, regional jet on ? Mi final be ready once in position and hold -- tower seemed confused again and asked who was in position and hold. We replied, they said cleared for takeoff.

Title: CAPT OF AN SF340 SAYS THAT THE TWR WAS CONFUSED ON CALL SIGNS AND HAD TO ASK THE RPTR AND A PREVIOUS ACR B727 WHAT THEIR CALL SIGNS WERE. ONCE IN POS AND HOLD THE TWR AGAIN ASKED THE RPTR FOR HIS CALL SIGN AND THEN CLRED HIM FOR TKOF.
