Narrative:
On approach to ewr, we were cleared to maintain 3000 ft and cleared ILS runway 22L. PF started descent to 1500 ft thinking he had crossed teb. Approach called, saying he needed us at 3000 ft not 2000 ft. We immediately climbed back to 3000 ft. We continued the approach with no further problems. PNF was identing ILS frequency at the time. Problem could have been prevented with closer attention to waypoint crossing by PF and earlier identify of ILS by PNF.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 ACFT IN DSCNT FOR ILS APCH, PF, FO THOUGHT THEY HAD CROSSED TEB AND COULD DSND TO 1500 FT. PNF, CAPT WAS IDENTING ILS AND DIDN'T NOTICE ALT UNTIL CTLR INTERVENED AND TOLD THEM TO MAINTAIN 3000 FT.
Narrative: ON APCH TO EWR, WE WERE CLRED TO MAINTAIN 3000 FT AND CLRED ILS RWY 22L. PF STARTED DSCNT TO 1500 FT THINKING HE HAD CROSSED TEB. APCH CALLED, SAYING HE NEEDED US AT 3000 FT NOT 2000 FT. WE IMMEDIATELY CLBED BACK TO 3000 FT. WE CONTINUED THE APCH WITH NO FURTHER PROBS. PNF WAS IDENTING ILS FREQ AT THE TIME. PROB COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED WITH CLOSER ATTN TO WAYPOINT XING BY PF AND EARLIER IDENT OF ILS BY PNF.
