Narrative:
Approximately 6 mins after takeoff from riverside airport (ral), the engine on my single place experimental quit with no warnings. I was just outside class D airspace but was still on tower frequency (121.00). I radioed tower that I was going down approximately 1 mi east of paradise VOR. I tried to restart twice unsuccessfully. After landing adjacent to a small hill and field, the tower was informed that I had landed safely with no injury or damage to plane or property. I checked the various engine system including: electrical -- both magnetos and plugs receiving spark, compression normal, and fuel system -- tanks 3/4 full, fuel lines clear, and carbs. My assessment was vapor lock. (I have a repairman's certificate for this aircraft.) takeoff was uneventful, and I returned to corona airport with no further incident.
