Narrative:

The 1500 ft normal landing zone of cvg runway 18L is completely covered in rubber deposits. The centerline stripes are invisible. Braking action in this area could be adversely affected. Finding the landing zone during a low visibility approach will be difficult. It requires cleaning and repainting. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the reciprocal runway is also heavily covered with rubber deposits, but 75% of the time runway 18L is the runway in use. Airport construction concentrates even more traffic than usual onto this runway. It is virtually impossible to identify the centerline stripes and in poor WX this could impact a landing or departure. Reporter submitted a report of the conditions to his company. Reporter was advised of the FAA hotline.

Title: B727 FO COMPLAINT OF HVY RUBBER DEPOSITS ON RWY 18L AT CVG WHICH IMPACT SIGHTING THE CTRLINE STRIPES AND BRAKING ACTION.

Narrative: THE 1500 FT NORMAL LNDG ZONE OF CVG RWY 18L IS COMPLETELY COVERED IN RUBBER DEPOSITS. THE CTRLINE STRIPES ARE INVISIBLE. BRAKING ACTION IN THIS AREA COULD BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED. FINDING THE LNDG ZONE DURING A LOW VISIBILITY APCH WILL BE DIFFICULT. IT REQUIRES CLEANING AND REPAINTING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT THE RECIPROCAL RWY IS ALSO HEAVILY COVERED WITH RUBBER DEPOSITS, BUT 75% OF THE TIME RWY 18L IS THE RWY IN USE. ARPT CONSTRUCTION CONCENTRATES EVEN MORE TFC THAN USUAL ONTO THIS RWY. IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO IDENT THE CTRLINE STRIPES AND IN POOR WX THIS COULD IMPACT A LNDG OR DEP. RPTR SUBMITTED A RPT OF THE CONDITIONS TO HIS COMPANY. RPTR WAS ADVISED OF THE FAA HOTLINE.
