Narrative:

On a direct course to ifi, ATC issued holding instructions to hold east of ifi right turns, 2O mi legs. I asked if that meant hold on the 090 degree radial, and he said yes 20 mi east of ifi. I asked a third time what exactly the clearance was and a supervisor said hold east on our present inbound radial, 20 mi legs. Standard verbiage would have helped.
