Narrative:
Landed runway 11 at ewr. Winds 250 degrees at 4 KTS. Landing weight 34000 pounds. Soft touchdown at vref, idle gate didn't open. Aircraft wouldn't go into reverse. Called for gate. First officer pulled gate and I used reverse in addition to brakes I had been using. Braking required was not excessive, but more than usual while taxiing to ramp. Brake temperature 'hot' light illuminated. Notified operations to have ramp personnel remain clear of main tires and only chock nose gear. Upon inspection, left inboard main tire depressurized and fuse plug blown. Passenger deplaned without incident. Both left main tires replaced, brakes ok. Operations continued. Use of idle gate upon landing included in brief for future lndgs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ATR72 LANDS AT EWR, NJ, WHEREIN THE ENGS DO NOT GO TO REVERSE THRUST. THE LACK OF DECELERATION CAUSES THE BRAKES TO HEAT AND THE FUSE PLUGS IN THE TIRES MELT AND DEFLATE THE TIRES DURING TAXI IN.
Narrative: LANDED RWY 11 AT EWR. WINDS 250 DEGS AT 4 KTS. LNDG WT 34000 LBS. SOFT TOUCHDOWN AT VREF, IDLE GATE DIDN'T OPEN. ACFT WOULDN'T GO INTO REVERSE. CALLED FOR GATE. FO PULLED GATE AND I USED REVERSE IN ADDITION TO BRAKES I HAD BEEN USING. BRAKING REQUIRED WAS NOT EXCESSIVE, BUT MORE THAN USUAL WHILE TAXIING TO RAMP. BRAKE TEMP 'HOT' LIGHT ILLUMINATED. NOTIFIED OPS TO HAVE RAMP PERSONNEL REMAIN CLR OF MAIN TIRES AND ONLY CHOCK NOSE GEAR. UPON INSPECTION, L INBOARD MAIN TIRE DEPRESSURIZED AND FUSE PLUG BLOWN. PAX DEPLANED WITHOUT INCIDENT. BOTH L MAIN TIRES REPLACED, BRAKES OK. OPS CONTINUED. USE OF IDLE GATE UPON LNDG INCLUDED IN BRIEF FOR FUTURE LNDGS.
