Narrative:
Short hop from bur to lax approximately XY00 on jul/xa/97 in the los angeles basin. Low overcast at lax, but clear in bur. Very hazy 3 SM visibility reported at both fields. Initial climb out of bur to 5000 ft. Vector for ILS runway 24R. 2 mi north of centerline and 5 NM east of roman NDB, approach turned us back northeast away from approach gate. This vector to provide more spacing, getting us into arrival flow, took us outside class B airspace at 5000 ft northeast corner of lax class B. Vector back right toward the localizer course and descent to 2500 ft MSL. Now about 4 1/2 mi north of localizer and 10 NM east of roman NDB. Initially get TCASII TA on aircraft merging from 3 O'clock at 3000 ft descending. Changes to an RA with command 'reduce climb.' we were level at 2500 ft but commands told us to stay level essentially. 20 seconds later immediate RA with aircraft at our 10 O'clock, -400 ft climbing. RA 'climb, climb now.' at this moment controller issued instructions to descend immediately for traffic (we think the 3 O'clock). We followed TCASII to climb, went to 3000 ft. Estimate we passed directly over 10 O'clock traffic, I hope with 400 ft, but flight attendant in back said it was very close. Don't know which traffic they saw, the 3 O'clock or the 10 O'clock going under us. I believe the TCASII saw both and saved us by directing us between them. As we neared 3000 ft it changed to 'monitor vertical speed' to reduce our climb and keep us at about 2800 ft. We had another RA closer to lax, but wasn't a problem. That's 3 RA's in a 16 min flight!

Title: B737-400 VECTORED OUTSIDE OF THE LAX CLASS B AIRSPACE AT 5000 FT FOR TFC SPACING CTL. ENCOUNTERS 2 UNKNOWN ACFT. APCH CTLR GIVES WRONG COMMAND FOR AVOIDING LOWER ACFT. TCASII RA'S SAVE THE DAY, ACCOUNTING FOR THE ACFT BELOW AND ONE ABOVE RPTR'S ACFT.
Narrative: SHORT HOP FROM BUR TO LAX APPROX XY00 ON JUL/XA/97 IN THE LOS ANGELES BASIN. LOW OVCST AT LAX, BUT CLR IN BUR. VERY HAZY 3 SM VISIBILITY RPTED AT BOTH FIELDS. INITIAL CLB OUT OF BUR TO 5000 FT. VECTOR FOR ILS RWY 24R. 2 MI N OF CTRLINE AND 5 NM E OF ROMAN NDB, APCH TURNED US BACK NE AWAY FROM APCH GATE. THIS VECTOR TO PROVIDE MORE SPACING, GETTING US INTO ARR FLOW, TOOK US OUTSIDE CLASS B AIRSPACE AT 5000 FT NE CORNER OF LAX CLASS B. VECTOR BACK R TOWARD THE LOC COURSE AND DSCNT TO 2500 FT MSL. NOW ABOUT 4 1/2 MI N OF LOC AND 10 NM E OF ROMAN NDB. INITIALLY GET TCASII TA ON ACFT MERGING FROM 3 O'CLOCK AT 3000 FT DSNDING. CHANGES TO AN RA WITH COMMAND 'REDUCE CLB.' WE WERE LEVEL AT 2500 FT BUT COMMANDS TOLD US TO STAY LEVEL ESSENTIALLY. 20 SECONDS LATER IMMEDIATE RA WITH ACFT AT OUR 10 O'CLOCK, -400 FT CLBING. RA 'CLB, CLB NOW.' AT THIS MOMENT CTLR ISSUED INSTRUCTIONS TO DSND IMMEDIATELY FOR TFC (WE THINK THE 3 O'CLOCK). WE FOLLOWED TCASII TO CLB, WENT TO 3000 FT. ESTIMATE WE PASSED DIRECTLY OVER 10 O'CLOCK TFC, I HOPE WITH 400 FT, BUT FLT ATTENDANT IN BACK SAID IT WAS VERY CLOSE. DON'T KNOW WHICH TFC THEY SAW, THE 3 O'CLOCK OR THE 10 O'CLOCK GOING UNDER US. I BELIEVE THE TCASII SAW BOTH AND SAVED US BY DIRECTING US BTWN THEM. AS WE NEARED 3000 FT IT CHANGED TO 'MONITOR VERT SPD' TO REDUCE OUR CLB AND KEEP US AT ABOUT 2800 FT. WE HAD ANOTHER RA CLOSER TO LAX, BUT WASN'T A PROB. THAT'S 3 RA'S IN A 16 MIN FLT!
